Assignment#3

Capter 5 Shared Idebtity Q.2
When I was a secondary school student, I belong to chorus club. Our team is top-class team in Kyushu (I'm from Fukuoka), and the goal is singing in the stage of the national choral competition. In my second grade, we acheived the goal. In my third grade, and I was captain, we didn't acheive it.When I think about the difference of these two seasons, this question for shared idebtity has hooked me. In my  second grade, my seniors were very serious about participating the national competition because they had never took part in it. I had a chance next year but they don't, so they all have the idea that "we go to Tokyo (where the competition was held)." Then, they achieve the goal. When I was in third grade, of course our goal was the national competition but we had acheived the goal in the previous year. The practice was very hard in my second grade, so some members said they didn't want to experience such a practice anymore. The others said it was essebtial for achieving goal.  Our goal was same but the way to achieve was different. There was miss understanding. We didn't make the value explicit. We didn't understand what is the first: the national competition or enjoying singing. I think that is a reason why I don't acheive the goal in my third grade.

  1. I could totally share some similar experience as you have; I belonged to archery club in my high school days, and I had done a lot of practices in order to compete at Inter-high meeting. It is hard sometimes to set a same practice schedules especially once you've already achieved a goal in a previous year...

Anyways, good to know you well!

  2. Hi Sayaka,

Yes, it is very hard to perform at a very high level for very long, especially after achieving your goal.

I hope you have not blamed yourself for not winning again when you were captain.
