About Chapter 8
I think finding something to celebrate and something to laugh about is important even when we feel gloomy, but we should not depend on this strategy too much in some situation. I mean that we should not use this strategy in order to escape from the reality.
In Shackleton's case, the strategy worked in a good way. Shackleton and his crews understood the living condition was worse but they continued to have the spirit of celebration. Their commitment to celebration was the way to cheer themselves up. It created an upbeat mood and gave them power to survive. It is certain that laughing is good for both physical and mental health.
But finding something to celebrate with ignoring problems in the reality should be avoided. It is just escaping from bad things, and postpones the resolution. We have to understand that celebrating small things is completely different from not looking at bad things.

Assignment#4
Answer question 4 of chapter 7
In club activity(chorus) in my high school days, we always had opposite idea to our teacher. I do not mean she is a troublemaker but she might have been a kind of malcontent. We should have express our idea to her, but we didn't. Although sometimes we did, she had strong power in the club and we couldn't change her mind. In this time, I was negative for dealing with conflicts.
In chorus club in my secondary school days, I was more active for dealing wih conflicts. When problems came upon, we held meeting and tried to solve. Important things were talked out until we got the best conclusion. But my idea may have been biased and I didn't listen well to other member's idea because I was young.
Now, in my basketball team, there are many conflicts. We sometimes have a conflict with our superviser and seniors, but we explain our idea and try to engage them. I can listen to others idea. Therefore my current style of dealing with conflict is the negotiation aiming at win-win situation! :)

Assignment#1
I’m sophomore student in the university and belong to basketball club. At the beginning of October, junior students leave our team and the time will come when we have to lead the team as leaders. How should we behave in order to lead the team to The Edge? We have to be trusted by other members. What does trust mean? As leaders, we should have good skills and a lot of knowledge to be trusted. However, generally speaking, there are few leaders who have good skills and knowledge. Therefore if we make efforts to get them, other members think that they have to support leaders and make efforts together.
The goal of the team is winning each game. Sometimes, however, there are the games which we know we lose because the competitor is far stronger than us. Then we need “new mark,” such as the alternative goal of keeping the gap between points less than 30 points. We can keep our motivation by this type of goal.
To improve our skills and achieve our goal, sometimes we need to abandon our pride and construct good relationship among the members. Even if our position is higher than others, we have to take advice from them. This structure that there are positions but everyone has the right to advise or warn leads the team to improvement and good relationship.
We have off-season to refresh our bodies and mind. In season, we often have frustration because of lack of own skills, relationship among members and school life except basketball. It does not mean members have always frustration but it is daily situation. Off-season is a good opportunity to leave basketball and diversion. All we have to do in university is not only club activity. If the grades go down because of busyness of club, it is clear that the member lose his or her motivation. Off-season gives us mind control period.

Capter 5 Shared Idebtity Q.2
When I was a secondary school student, I belong to chorus club. Our team is top-class team in Kyushu (I'm from Fukuoka), and the goal is singing in the stage of the national choral competition. In my second grade, we acheived the goal. In my third grade, and I was captain, we didn't acheive it.When I think about the difference of these two seasons, this question for shared idebtity has hooked me. In my second grade, my seniors were very serious about participating the national competition because they had never took part in it. I had a chance next year but they don't, so they all have the idea that "we go to Tokyo (where the competition was held)." Then, they achieve the goal. When I was in third grade, of course our goal was the national competition but we had acheived the goal in the previous year. The practice was very hard in my second grade, so some members said they didn't want to experience such a practice anymore. The others said it was essebtial for achieving goal. Our goal was same but the way to achieve was different. There was miss understanding. We didn't make the value explicit. We didn't understand what is the first: the national competition or enjoying singing. I think that is a reason why I don't acheive the goal in my third grade.

Question 1
When I face an adversity, I say to myself "I can do it somehow." I try not think it is impossible. I struggled writing 1,500 words essay last week. I keeped my motivation high by thinking that. "It's not only me who is struggling" also cheer me up. If the adversity is so serious that I can't think "I can do it somehow" or something similar to this, I blame myself for lack of ability to resolve the adversity, cry and sleep. When I wake up after that, I'm fine.
Question 2
I say to myself "I can do it somehow" in order not to worry too much. If I'm so depressed because of worrying, I can't be calm and lose motivation. It comes to be possible for me to find solution and to keep struggling by being optimism. Saying to myself "I can do it somehow," "it's not only me who is struggling," crying and sleeping after blaming myself is the way to cheer me up, and these things makes me calm down and gives me objective views to resolve the problem.
